I must admit I enjoy trading. I've loved it all my life. When I was about 8 years old I discovered what the stock market was, I do not remember how I first learned of it. I do remember asking my dad about it all the time.
I suppose he may have presented it to me. He showed me how to interpret the stock prices that were printed in the newspaper every day. He also showed me ways to keep an eye on any kind of shell company, public shell, or reverse merger. No world wide web back then.
Apparently, I must have made an impression on him, mainly because for my ninth birthday he got me one share of the Mead Paper Company. My very first share of stock, he explained to me, that this meant that I owned a tiny piece of the company. That was it; a fire was lit in me that burns even today.
My dad passed away in 1988, at the youthful age of 37. By this time I was eighteen, I had not talked to him in a few years about the markets. He moved around a lot, and he was in declining health the very last three decades of his life.
Back then, I thought his knowledge of the stock market was never-ending. Looking back today, I realize that wasn't the case. He did have goals, and those aspirations still live today through me. I'm grateful that he took the time to pass them on.
At this time, I trade E-minis and Currencies. I truly think that for some folks, this is the greatest job on the planet. I know it really is for me. I haven't turned into Peter Lynch or Warren Buffet.
Heck, I'm almost certainly closer to Jimmy Buffett. One thing is still true; I am as passionate about trading right now as I was three decades ago.
One thing has changed now, I really feel stronger about introducing others to trading, than I do about actually trading for myself. Looking back, that might have been my uncle's passion also. Not the trading, but the sharing.
