Fashionable String Lights - Ideal For Screened Porch
We are all familiar with festoon lamps - strings lights used around the holidays. These simple tools highlight outside venues, like circuses, as well as restaurant patios and gatherings underneath tents. They are low cost, and practical.
Strings lights came to imagination as permanent lighting for the screened patio in the house we were constructing. They would be suitable with this casual, industrial style home. String lights are not the same thing as low voltage cable lamps, which are not suitable for outdoors, and can be more pricey than ten times as much.
String lights are simple to install: During the electrical wiring procedure, three outlets were being installed on top of the wall at intervals across the area. The outlets were linked to a switch, so the lamps can be turned on easily. During the finishing phase, ordinary wire was mounted on eye screws in the wall structure. At one end, the eye screws are beside the outlets, making sure that the light string could be plugged in. Three strands of average gauge wire were attached to the eye screws and drew tight across the room.
We first of all tried a package of little smaller lights on one of any wires, but did not like the tangled green electric cord that came with lights. It was too noticeable. So we took those back and got three containers of medium bulb Holiday lights. These came with simpler electric wire and larger sized bulbs. They were known as C-7's. You can buy C-9's if you want bigger bulbs. There are many bulb styles and sizes to choose from, all the way up to common sized bulbs.
Each bulb has a little clip so it can be hung on the wire. We spaced the lamps out, and then pulled the strand hard. This type of light strand can be cut down, so there was no excess towards the end. When the strand is cut, you will need some black electrician's tape in order to seal the end.
When the light strings are turned on we had a nice surprise. The lighting effects was beautifully diffused all through the room. It turned out to be so soft and diffused that it looked like moonlight. Strings of tiny lights have a special ambiance - they remind us of celebrations and festive times. It was exciting to re-interpret this familiar lighting preference for daily use.
