Dead Skin Mask: Their Original New Tunes Plus The Scoop On What They're Up To
I've contacted the drummer of the band, to receive the inside info on the Dead Skin Mask project as well as the progress of their original music as well as the details on what he is doing right now...
Slayer Girl: So the Dead Skin Mask seriously isn't "dead"!
Mykill: (Laugh) No! We are around. You'll find a lot of distinct things I'm doing. Sometimes one is put on "hold" for a little. But, with exception of one in particular, I actually take pleasure in my bands.
SG: Which one of them do you not?
M: Hahaha! I .. Uhh.. Yes!
Sg: I see. DSM is producing originals now?
M: Oh yeah. It has been talk for a while, but we're within the process now. Between the 3 of them (Danny M, Joey K, Romeo V) you'll find some excellent ideas. Among the last projects, the guy was going to write poseur ballads, just like love song stuff! I dislike that.
The "hair band" and spandex days are fortunately dead not to mention buried. This band is into some really serious music, not like the ridiculous stuff the other guy is into.
SG: So I take it you do not prefer love songs?
M: No, not really. Here's what I listen to... What I purchase... And what I compose. All three are extremely different. My CD collection will make you believe I'm schizophrenic.
SG: How many projects are you involved with right now?
M: Well, a brand new development has arisen. A while back, I created this name the last band (1 individual) did not like. It would have been chosen as a song or album title. I seriously wanted to use it as the name of the band, but specific individuals were set in their ridiculous ways.
So, on one of the numerous hiatus's this specific band had, 3 of us used it. The name I invented is PAWNS OF CHRIST. Angel F, Romeo V, and I also decided that we three will go on working together, and that will be our band name.
It'll have absolutely NO link with the "other" band we were in. Absolutely nothing at all! The music will probably be a mixture of all our tastes grouped together. Not so much like the one before. The last endeavor was discouraging.
People not showing up, scheduling a practice... Then not showing up, canceling shows, and so forth. Real childish stuff. Well, the 3 of us are sick of it. All 3 of us can go on leaving the "issue" behind, so to speak.
SG: Problems?
M: Me? No!
SG: So you must practice a great deal?
M: Mostly the only time I play occurs when we practice or play a show. The way my life is situated right now, it doesn't really permit me to. When I need to write something, I pretty much compose it inside my head, and I'm fortunate enough to have the ability to "play my thoughts".
Yes, it requires a run through or so, but not much more than that. I remember a time when I used to "play in my head." It was way more challenging than I could really do. I am glad that I've been able to develop the abilities, in actual ability, to have the ability to do that. Real glad.
